About Oppenheimer Memorial Trust (OMT)
The Oppenheimer Memorial Trust (OMT) is an endowed trust founded in 1958 and has a long history of investing in public interest activities, education, and other philanthropic causes. The trust aims to raise the standards of education in South Africa and believes that every South African must have access to higher education standards at all levels. The trust provides grants to public benefit organisations and institutions, primarily in the education sector.
Oppenheimer Memorial Trust (OMT) Scholarships 2022
The Oppenheimer Memorial Trust (OMT) Scholarships 2022 are offered to South Africans pursuing their postgraduate Masters, Doctoral or Postdoctoral degrees in South Africa or Internationally. The student applying to the scholarship programme must have excellent academic records.
The Oppenheimer Memorial Trust (OMT) Scholarships 2022 are offered in the following categories:
OMT Postgraduate Scholarship for Local Studies – OMT offers scholarships every year to South African citizens at Master’s, Doctoral and Postdoctoral levels.
OMT Postgraduate Scholarship for International Studies – OMT offers scholarships to South African students pursuing their education internationally and can fulfil the eligibility requirements. This scholarship is provided to students pursuing Master’s, Doctoral and Postdoctoral level education.
Awards for the Oppenheimer Memorial Trust (OMT) Scholarships 2022 will not be granted on a full cost basis. The value may vary based on various circumstances. Students applying to this programme are encouraged to seek out co-funding from other sources. All other applications to other sources must be declared in the Oppenheimer Memorial Trust (OMT) Scholarship applications.
The students are selected for the award on a merit basis and by the approval of the trustees of OMT. The scholarships are awarded yearly, and students must apply at the beginning of that particular academic year.
Eligibility Criteria For The Oppenheimer Memorial Trust Scholarships
The students must be able to satisfy the following criteria to be eligible to apply for the OMT scholarship 2022.
For local applicants:
The applicant must be a South African Citizen or a Permanent Resident of South Africa.
Foreign nationals can only apply to the Postdoctoral programs.
The applicant must be doing a postgraduate qualification – Masters, Doctorate or Post-doctorate.
MBA’s, DBA’s and students doing any other qualification are not eligible to apply.
The applicant must be studying towards the qualification for the first time. If the student already has a degree in the same qualification, they cannot apply.
The student must be enrolled in a public higher education institution in South Africa (only for local applicants).
In addition to the above criteria, the international applicants must also fulfill the following requirements:
The student applying to the scholarship program must be intending to study towards a discipline that is not available in South Africa or must prove that they have reached a point in their education that required the direction of leaders across the world in their particular field of study.
The applicant must be enrolled at a higher learning institution internationally.
The applicant must be willing to follow a career in research, development, academia or related fields in South Africa.
How to apply for Oppenheimer Memorial Trust (OMT) Scholarships 2022?
Applications must be sent via email with all the required documents to the below email addresses. Make sure that you use the correct email based on whether you are applying for a local college or an international institution. The subject line for both applications can be – “OMT Scholarship Application”.
OMT Postgraduate Scholarship for Local Studies – email your application to firstname.lastname@example.org.
OMT Postgraduate Scholarship for International Studies – email your application to email@example.com.
If you are sending two emails with your application, in the case that your documents don’t fit in one email, make sure that you mention the same in the email application.
Applicants will receive an email about their application status within 2 to 3 months after the closing date.
OMT scholarship applicants must provide the following documentation along with their email application:
A signed motivation statement, not more than 500 words.
A brief outline about the field of study, choice of institution, programme of study and period of study.
An updated CV, which is not more than 3 pages long.
A certified South African ID document of the applicant.
Transcripts for all programmes that the applicant has completed or is enrolled in.
Copies of degree certificates.
Proof of acceptance or registration at an approved institution.
Details of project or research costs and any other funding required.

Three Letters of Recommendation (LORs) must be sent directly to the OMT by the recommenders’ to the following emails with the applicants’ name and reference letter as the email’s subject.
If you have applied to more than one higher educational institution, the names of all the institutions and your first preference must be included in the application email. You only have to submit one application in this case.

The applications for the OMT Scholarships will have to be submitted within the following dates:
If you are beginning college between April 2022 and June 2022 – 31 January 2022
If you are beginning college between July 2022 and October 2022 – 31 March 2022
