Requirements :

  • MR-3: An LLB Degree or equivalent legal qualification plus 2 years post graduate legal experience in drafting and vetting of contracts. MR-4: An LLB Degree or equivalent qualification plus 8 years post graduate legal experience in drafting and vetting of contracts. MR-5: An LLB Degree or equivalent qualification plus 14 year’s post graduate legal experience in drafting and vetting of contracts. Incumbents must be admitted Attorneys or Advocates. A valid South African Driver’s Licence. Proficiency in Microsoft Office packages (Word, Excel and Power Point). knowledge: Understanding of the Basic Conditions of Employment Act, Public Service Act, Public Service Regulations, Labour Relations Act, PFMA and Treasury Regulations. Knowledge of practice Manuals, National Health Act, 2003 and Regulations, Mental Health Care Act, 2002, promotion of Administrative Justice Act, 2000, promotion of Access to Information Act, 2000 and etc. Skills: Legal research and drafting, dispute resolution and case flow management skills. Strong leadership, people and general management skills. Project management, analytical and research skills.

Duties :

  • The incumbent will be responsible for amongst others: Providing legal advice and opinion assistance to the Department. Handling litigation matters involving the Department. Providing inputs into agreements, vetting of contracts and drafting of memoranda of understanding entered into by the Department with other parties. Providing advice on the interpretation and application of legislation administered by the Department. Handling internal and external enquires of a legal nature. Representing the Department at various committees. Liaising with the State Attorney’s Office and other organs of State in
    protecting the interest of the Department. Provide supervision and training of junior staff.
