About Assmang Manganese

Founded in 1935, Assmang Proprietary Limited is a renowned mining company that runs its three main divisions: Iron ore, Manganese, and the smelting operations within South Africa.

The Manganese Ore is mined within the Black Rock mining complex of the Kalahari, Northern Cape (Nchwaning and Gloria mines). Most of the produced manganese is exported to foreign markets including Asia, the United States of America, India, Europe, etc., while some of it is distributed across local markets.

Assmang acquired a Manganese Ore outcrop in the year 1940 on a small hillock named Black Rock. With time, Assmang steadily found and acquired numerous other large properties governed by ore.

In 2021, Assmang exported nearly 4 million tonnes of Manganese ore.
